Michael J. Riegel

Vice President, Mobile and WebSphere Solutions, IBM

Mike currently serves as Vice President of Mobile and WebSphere solutions for IBM. In this role he directs the strategy and marketing for IBM’s global mobile and web solutions to advance the company’s Smarter Planet strategy. Previously, Mike served as Vice President of Startups, ISVs and Academic Programs and was recognized for creating IBM’s partnership program with venture capital firms and startup companies across more than 40 countries.

Mike has over fifteen years of leadership experience in marketing, product management, sales, mergers and acquisitions, business consulting, channel management and marketing roles across software, hardware and services businesses. Mike has been a featured speaker at events around the world covering topics as diverse as marketing and branding strategies, mobile computing, channel development, innovation and business strategy, risk management, business transformation, leadership and change management, sustainable cities, Linux and open-source trends, software and cloud-based business
models, and social media marketing. He has also been featured in Businessweek magazine and he was profiled in Forbes India for his work in leading IBM’s programs with startups and venture capital firms.

Prior to joining IBM, Mike worked at InterAmerica Technologies, a privately held software firm in McLean, Virginia. He also worked briefly as an economic advisor in the United States Congress.
In addition to his role at IBM, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Software & Information Industry Association.

Prior to this, Burgos worked for Swisscom Mobile AG and Perspectix AG during his living years in Switzerland.
